Why is it that you need an interior designer?

0

When reforming a home or business there are many who decide to seek the help of a reliable interior designer in Singapore . However, most are not clear about what type of profile they need, especially because they do not usually fully understand the tasks they will have to perform either. Who Are We Looking For? To an architect, better a decorator, or maybe an Interior Designer? Doesn’t it matter? Well no, it doesn’t matter. Although it is very common for the profession of interior designer and decorator to be confused, they are two very different profiles.

On the one hand we have the interior designer

In order to use this name, you must first have the university degree that proves that you have completed these studies. Unfortunately, it is very common for people without any training, or with a different training, to hang this medal. Now, what does the designer have that the rest do not? The interior designer possesses the technical and creative knowledge to create functional spaces. It is capable of modifying construction elements to change the space and its distribution. Maximizing the positives and minimizing the negatives.

This discipline follows a well-defined methodology, nothing is by chance. Designs must be tailored to the client’s needs and fit within their budget limits. The process begins by putting the first ideas on paper. Once you have the first sketches, research work is essential. This will provide you with knowledge about technical processes and limitations, among other things. Finally, once the project is well defined, it must be approved by the customer. The designer is thereafter responsible for directing trades work to ensure the proper execution of it.

So why is he mistaken for a decorator?

Said like that it doesn’t seem difficult. However, to carry out a good project, the interior designer is a specialist in: history of design, artistic and geometric drawing, marketing, calculation of structures, construction, installations, acoustics and lighting, restoration and rehabilitation, psychology of perception, etc. Well, it is true that decoration falls within the knowledge that an interior designer has. The opposite is not the case. As we have already commented, the decorator does not have the university studies of interior architecture, and as it should be understood, he does not have the necessary technical knowledge.

The work of a decorator always begins with the work already finished and the space well defined. This is when you can dedicate yourself to choosing colors, textures, lights, etc. Its function is to dress the space and provide the style that best suits your client.

But what if we call in an architect, the better?

After these years of crisis, it is very common to meet architects who are dedicating themselves to interior design. And although there are some who are really good at it, we can say that it is more of an innate quality. Why? Well, because although the architect does have the precise technical knowledge, interior design is not his specialty. And therefore, he has not acquired other knowledge necessary to carry it out.
